Sundays
Please see the calendar page to check what is happening each week
Morning Service, 10:30 am
This usually begins with a time of praise and worship led by our music group, followed by communion and then a talk.
Children usually leave for their own groups before communion except during the monthly all age service.
Drinks are served after the service which usually finishes at about 12:00 pm
All Age Service
This normally takes place on the second Sunday of each month and is a shorter service of approximately one hour.
These services are very informal, do not include communion and are usually followed by a bring and share lunch.
People always bring plenty of food so visitors are always welcome to join us for lunch!
Evening Service, 6:30 pm
This service begins with praise and worship led by the music group. It doesn't normally include communion except when there has been an all age service in the morning.
The talk in the evening is usually interactive and part of a series studying a book of the Bible and the service normally finishes at about 7:45pm
Drinks are served after the service and people often stay around for quite a while to chat or play a game of pool
B1 meeting, 7.00 pm
Once a month (usually the third Sunday) we meet with five other churches at North Street Church instead of having an evening service at Canon Street. This meeting varies in content from month to month but usually includes a worship time followed either by prayer or a speaker.
You can find out more about B1 here.
Children
Children are very welcome at Canon Street, especially on Sunday mornings when they have their own groups which cater for children aged up to about 12 years.
There is a box of toys available at the back of the church for small children if they get restless during the praise and worship time.
Worship Style
Being a Pentecostal church our praise and worship style is quite informal with space given for congregational participation. People may well pray out loud during the worship or share a Bible reading or prophecy (God given message of encouragement, strengthening or comfort).
Sometimes the gift of tongues may be used when someone speaks in an unknown language and an interpretation is given (similar to prophecy but in two stages).
We invite contributions from all Christians during worship but please bear in mind the Biblical exhortations to do everything in love, in an orderly manner and to desire prophecy above tongues in public meetings.
Communion
We celebrate communion (also known as the Lord’s Supper, Eucharist or breaking of bread) each week, usually during the morning service.
Everyone who knows Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour is welcome to take communion regardless of denominational affiliation.
It is very rare for everyone in the service to take communion so please do not feel at all embarrassed if you do not take part.
For inclusion reasons we use grape juice instead of wine.
Offerings
The church is funded entirely by congregational giving and we take up an offering during both our Sunday services.
Although this is an important part of worship for many who attend regularly please do not feel obliged to give.
Many people who make regular donations use envelopes to take advantage of the government’s Gift Aid scheme.
Accessibility
The church has an access ramp.
A hearing loop is fitted – please switch your hearing aid to the “T” position to make use of this.
If you need any help with accessibility issues please ask a member of the welcome team.
